Overview

The North Bridge (Pivnichnyi Bridge) is a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Dnieper River in Kyiv, connecting the Obolon district to the Troieshchyna district. Opened in 1976, it was designed by engineer Georgy Fux and architect Anatoly Dobrovolsky. The structure features a distinctive 115-meter tall A-frame pylon that supports the main span using steel cables. It serves as a vital arterial link for the city, carrying both vehicular traffic and a dedicated lane for public transit. The bridge is notable for its functional Soviet-era modernist design, specifically the use of reinforced concrete and high-tensile steel cables. It remains a key piece of infrastructure in northern Kyiv, characterized by its wide deck and industrial aesthetic. The bridge is officially named the Pivnichnyi (Northern) Bridge, having been renamed from its Soviet-era title, the Moscow Bridge, in 2018.
