Interesting facts
1

The beach is located within the territory of the Parco Nazionale dell'Arcipelago Toscano.

2

The distinctive red and grey colors of the pebbles are remnants of the area's historical iron mining activity in the Rio Marina district.

3

The bay is one of the few spots on Elba that remains largely shielded from mass tourism due to its challenging access route.

4

The water clarity is consistently rated as high quality by local environmental monitoring agencies due to the lack of significant nearby river runoff.

Overview

Spiaggia di Nisportino is a secluded, pebble-and-sand beach located on the northeastern coast of Elba Island. The bay is framed by high, Mediterranean scrub-covered cliffs that provide a natural barrier against urban development. The beach is composed primarily of small, multicolored pebbles and gravel, resulting in exceptionally clear, turquoise water. It faces north-northeast, making it susceptible to rougher seas during Mistral or tramontana winds. Access to the shoreline requires descending a steep, winding road from the village of Nisporto. A small portion of the beach features a stabilized area for seasonal equipment rentals. The seabed drops relatively quickly, making it suitable for snorkeling near the flanking rock formations.

Insider tips

Wear water shoes to navigate the transition from large pebbles to the seabed comfortably.

Bring your own shade equipment, as natural tree cover on the beach itself is limited.

Check wind reports before arrival; northern winds can make the sea choppy and less ideal for swimming.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to park on the narrow access road; use the designated parking areas provided at the top or near the base to avoid fines.

Good to know

Beach services, such as kiosks and equipment rentals, are available exclusively during the summer season.

Etiquette

Respect the protected natural environment; do not remove stones or pebbles from the beach as it is a violation of local park regulations.
