Overview

Thomas on the Mountain is one of the six large-scale wooden sculptures known as The Six Forgotten Giants, created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo in the suburban areas surrounding Copenhagen. The sculpture is constructed primarily from recycled wood, including old pallets, shed materials, and fences. It is situated on a hill in Albertslund, intentionally placed away from central city attractions to encourage exploration of lesser-known natural spaces. The artwork is part of a larger project designed to bring art out of museums and into public landscapes. Thomas is depicted in a reclining position, nestled into the sloping terrain of the landscape. Each of the six giants has a unique name and personality integrated into the Dambo project's narrative. Visitors reach the sculpture via a short hiking path that winds through the surrounding forested parkland. The installation is intended to weather and age naturally within the environment.

Insider tips

Download the digital map from the artist's official website before arriving, as mobile reception can be spotty in the wooded areas.

Wear waterproof footwear, as the path to the sculpture involves walking through grass and unpaved forest terrain that can become muddy.

Bring a small snack or drink, as there are no vendor facilities immediately adjacent to the sculpture site.

What to avoid

Assuming the location is wheelchair accessible; the path includes uneven forest ground and inclines that are difficult for strollers or mobility aids.

Etiquette
