Overview

Senshū Park is built on the former site of Kubota Castle, the residence of the Satake clan during the Edo period. The park spans approximately 16 hectares and is situated on a hill overlooking Akita City. It contains reconstructed structures including the Sumiyoshi Yagura turret and the Omotemon gate. The landscape design incorporates remnants of original moats, earthworks, and stone walls. The park is renowned for hosting over 800 cherry trees, specifically Yoshino and weeping varieties. It is also famous for its extensive collection of azaleas and irises. The Satake Historical Museum is located within the park grounds, documenting the history of the ruling clan. Several tea houses and memorial statues are scattered along the walking paths.
