Overview

Lake Darling State Park is a 1,387-acre recreational area in Washington County, Iowa, featuring a 267-acre lake constructed in 1950. The park serves as a hub for angling, with the lake stocked with bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and walleye. It offers over 14 miles of trails, including a multi-use paved trail suitable for hiking and cycling that connects the modern campground to the park's central facilities. The facility was extensively renovated between 2008 and 2011 to improve water quality, address siltation, and upgrade park infrastructure. Accommodations include 134 campsites, ranging from basic to full-hookup sites, and four rental cabins. The park features an accessible fishing pier, multiple boat ramps, and a beach area for swimming. It is named in honor of Jay 'Ding' Darling, a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and pioneering conservationist.
