Overview

Rozhledna Bára is a distinctively triangular wooden lookout tower situated on the Hůra hill near Slatiňany. Its unique structural design was created by the architectural studio Huť architektury Martin Rajniš. The current structure, known as Bára II, replaced an original tower that was destroyed by a windstorm shortly after its 2008 inauguration. Completed in 2009, the tower stands 30 meters tall and offers views of the Pardubice region, the Iron Mountains, and the Orlické Mountains. It is located within a forested area managed by the Chrudim municipal forests. The design features a heavy reliance on timber and steel tension cables, emphasizing a light, permeable appearance. The site is part of a larger recreational area that includes forest trails and activity zones for visitors.

Insider tips

Bring binoculars to fully utilize the vantage point toward the distant Orlické Mountains.

Combine your visit with a walk through the nearby Slatiňany forest paths.

Check the weather forecast, as visibility from the open-top gallery is significantly reduced during heavy fog or low cloud cover.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to climb the tower during periods of high wind, as the structure is intentionally designed to sway.

Good to know

Open year-round, though the upper gallery may be restricted during severe weather conditions.
