The site was historically known as the 'Castle of the Sudovians' due to its strategic importance in tribal defense.

Prelomciškė mound is one of the largest and most significant archaeological sites in the Meteliai Regional Park, located in southern Lithuania. The site features a defensive fortification that was used by the Sudovians, a Baltic tribe, between the 1st millennium and the early 2nd millennium. The mound consists of a 16-meter-high hill with a flat top measuring approximately 25 by 15 meters. Excavations have uncovered cultural layers, including ceramic shards and evidence of ancient hearths. The surrounding area includes two distinct outer baileys and a former settlement site that once covered several hectares. It stands as a landmark of the historical defensive network constructed to protect the region from Teutonic incursions. The site remains managed under the protection of the Meteliai Regional Park Directorate.
