The tower is one of the last remaining stone geodetic towers in the Czech Republic from the pre-WWII era.
During World War II, the tower was utilized by the German occupation forces for forest surveillance.

Studený vrch (Cold Hill) Lookout Tower is a historic stone tower situated at an elevation of 660 meters in the Brdy Highlands. Constructed in 1940, the tower was originally built as a geodetic triangulation point and served as an observation post for the Forest Administration. It features a masonry base topped by a wooden cabin, standing 17 meters tall. Visitors access the viewing gallery via a steep, narrow internal staircase. The site provides panoramic views of the Brdy forest, the Vltava River valley, and, on clear days, the distant Krkonoše mountains. It is a popular destination for hikers and cyclists traversing the Hřebeny ridge trail system.
The highest observation deck provides 360-degree views, specifically pointing the lens toward the central Brdy forested range.

Wear sturdy trekking boots, as the approach paths consist of uneven forest terrain with exposed roots and loose stones.

The interior of the tower is typically closed during the winter season for safety; generally open to the public on weekends and holidays from spring through autumn.
