Overview

Kezar Stadium is a historic multi-purpose athletic facility located on the eastern edge of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Originally built in 1925, the current structure is a 10,000-seat venue used primarily for high school football, soccer, and track and field competitions. It replaced the original 60,000-seat stadium that served as the home field for the San Francisco 49ers from 1946 until 1970. The facility features an all-weather synthetic turf field and a rubberized track open for public use when not in use for scheduled events. The site is managed by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department.

Insider tips

The track is open to the public for jogging when school or league sports are not in session.

Bring layers, as the proximity to the Pacific Ocean often creates sudden fog and temperature drops.

Check the official city park website for the monthly schedule before planning a visit, as the track is frequently reserved for local athletic leagues.

What to avoid

Do not leave valuables in a parked car anywhere in or near the surrounding park area.

Good to know

The field and track are occasionally closed for private league rentals or maintenance; check the official city website for updated closure notices.
