The park was formerly known as Bayonne County Park before being renamed in honor of Stephen R. Gregg, a Bayonne resident and World War II Medal of Honor recipient.
The park serves as the terminus for the Hackensack RiverWalk, a planned continuous trail along the riverfront.
Its location on the western side of the Bayonne peninsula makes it a strategic vantage point for viewing international cargo ships entering Newark Bay.
