Overview

The Dilwara Temples are a cluster of five Svetambara Jain temples located near Mount Abu in Rajasthan, built between the 11th and 13th centuries. They are renowned for their intricate white marble carvings, which remain among the finest examples of Maru-Gurjara architecture. The complex comprises the Vimal Vasahi, Luna Vasahi, Pithalhar, Parshvanatha, and Mahavir Swami temples. The Vimal Vasahi and Luna Vasahi temples are the oldest and most architecturally significant, featuring elaborate ceilings, pillars, and doorways. The marble was transported by elephant from the Arasoori hills near Ambaji. Intricate carvings include representations of Jain Tirthankaras, mythical creatures, and lotus motifs. The temples remain active places of worship for the Jain community.
