Overview

Pine Garden is a historic Japanese-colonial era military building located on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Hualien. Originally constructed in 1943, the site served as the administrative office for the Japanese military's Pacific Fleet during World War II. The architecture features reinforced concrete walls and a distinctive hip-and-gable roof structure. Today, the facility functions as a cultural center, hosting art exhibitions, local literature displays, and regional historical artifacts. The grounds are characterized by a cluster of over 60-year-old Ryukyu pine trees that provide extensive canopy cover across the property. The site offers panoramic views of Hualien Harbor and the coastal geography. It is currently recognized as one of the best-preserved military structures from the Japanese colonial period in Eastern Taiwan.
