Overview

Terezino údolí (Theresa Valley) is a romantic landscape park established in 1756 by Countess Theresa Buquoy along the Stropnice River. The reserve spans approximately 139 hectares and features a historic artificial waterfall constructed in the 19th century. Visitors can walk an educational nature trail that highlights the valley's distinct microclimate and protected forest ecosystems. The valley houses the ruins of a classical building known as 'Václav’s Bath,' originally serving as a retreat for the nobility. Extensive tree populations include rare specimens and old-growth forest sections integrated into the natural ravine. The site is a National Natural Monument, protected for its geomorphological significance and biodiversity. The park is characterized by its dramatic rock formations and the meandering course of the Stropnice river through a deep, wooded gorge. Several historic stone bridges and wooden structures remain along the established path network.

Insider tips

Wear waterproof hiking boots as the paths near the river can remain muddy long after rainfall.

Start your hike from the designated parking area at the edge of Trhové Sviny for direct access to the main loop.

Bring insect repellent during the summer months, as the damp gorge environment attracts mosquitoes.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to cross the river outside of the designated bridges, as the banks are steep and can be unstable.

Etiquette

Stick strictly to marked trails to protect the fragile ecosystem and rare plant habitats; no fires or camping.
