The Ancient Thracian Tomb (also known as the Thracian Tumulus) near Pomorie is a unique domed structure dating back to the 2nd–3rd century AD. The structure features a distinctive circular central chamber topped by a hollow column that acts as a ventilation shaft. The walls were originally lined with semicircular niches for funeral urns. Its architecture combines traditional Thracian burial mound construction with advanced Roman brickwork techniques. It is widely believed to have served as a heroon, a site for heroic cult worship, rather than a standard tomb. The internal diameter of the dome reaches approximately 11.6 meters, creating a striking acoustic effect. Archaeological evidence suggests it functioned as a mausoleum for a wealthy Thracian family.
