Overview

The Castle of Torrelobatón is a 15th-century fortress and the best-preserved fortification in the province of Valladolid, Spain. It serves as the Interpretation Center for the Comuneros, dedicated to the Castilian War of the Communities. Construction was completed around 1480 by the Enríquez family, specifically Luis Enríquez and his wife, María de Velasco. The structure features a prominent keep tower, known as the Torre del Homenaje, rising over 40 meters. Its military design includes double defensive walls and a barbican. The castle was the final tactical stronghold held by the rebel forces of the Comuneros before their decisive defeat at the Battle of Villalar in 1521. Today, visitors can explore the internal galleries, the defensive parapets, and various exhibitions focusing on medieval weaponry and 16th-century political history.
