Overview

Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected forested area spanning approximately 14.31 hectares in the heart of Bardhaman. The sanctuary was originally established as a deer park in the late 1970s before being formally declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1981. It serves as a natural habitat for spotted deer (chital), providing a concentrated pocket of biodiversity amidst an urbanized landscape. The flora consists primarily of mixed deciduous vegetation including Teak, Sissoo, and Arjun trees. The site functions as a mini-zoo and sanctuary, housing enclosures for rescued or salvaged wildlife. It is administered by the West Bengal Forest Department as part of the Bardhaman Forest Division. The sanctuary acts as a significant green lung for the city of Bardhaman. Visitors can observe wildlife through designated walking paths within the enclosure areas.
