Overview

Černá Studnice is a historic stone lookout tower standing at 869 meters above sea level, located on the ridge of the Jizera Mountains. Constructed in 1905 in the Art Nouveau style, it features a 26-meter-high granite tower with an integrated mountain lodge. The structure was commissioned by the German Mountain Association for the Jeschken and Iser Mountains. It offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Giant Mountains, Jizera Mountains, and the Czech Paradise region. The masonry exhibits intricate stone craftsmanship, and the tower remains one of the oldest observation points in the local region. It serves as a central junction for several marked hiking and cycling trails connecting the towns of Jablonec nad Nisou and Smržovka. The tower was completely renovated in the early 21st century to preserve its original aesthetic.

Insider tips

Wear sturdy hiking shoes, as the approach involves steep forested paths regardless of the direction of arrival.

Bring binoculars, as the atmospheric clarity from the peak often allows for identification of distant landmarks in the Bohemian Basin.

Visit the onsite restaurant to experience the traditional mountain lodge interior, which retains elements of its historical character.

What to avoid

Do not attempt the ascent during thunderstorms or high winds, as the exposed observation deck lacks shelter.

Good to know

The restaurant and tower may have reduced operations or limited service during midweek days in the off-season; check local updates for seasonal closures.
