Overview

The Alytus footbridge, also known as the White Rose Bridge, is the highest pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Lithuania. Spanning 240.5 meters across the Nemunas River, it reaches a height of 38.1 meters above the water level. The structure was reconstructed from the pillars of a former railway bridge that served the Alytus–Varėna line until 1997. It connects the city of Alytus with the Alytus mound area, providing a direct link between the urban center and natural hiking trails. The bridge features a distinct white steel design and offers panoramic views of the Nemunas loop. It serves as a focal point for local events and serves as a major connection for the regional cycle path network.

Insider tips

Visit during sunset for optimal lighting conditions against the white steel architecture.

Combine your walk with a hike through the adjacent Alytus mound forest trails.

Bring wind-resistant clothing, as the height makes the bridge significantly windier than the ground level.

What to avoid

Avoid leaning over the railings, as the height is significant and the bridge can experience vibration during high winds.
