Overview

Satta Pass is a historic mountain pass located in the Shimizu Ward of Shizuoka, renowned for its panoramic views of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the Tōkaidō Main Line railway tracks. It served as a critical section of the Edo-period Tōkaidō road, connecting Edo to Kyoto. The pass gained artistic fame through Utagawa Hiroshige’s ukiyo-e print from 'The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō' series. The hiking path follows a section of the former trail that was famously steep, forcing travelers to bypass it via a lower route historically. Today, the vantage point is accessed via a paved path that leads hikers through mandarin orange orchards. It is one of the few locations where the sea, the railway, the Tomei Expressway, and Mount Fuji can be captured in a single frame. The observation deck is maintained by Shizuoka City and provides clear lines of sight toward the Izu Peninsula.
