Overview

Amethyst Cavern Park is a theme park built inside a former amethyst mine located in the Ulju-gun district of Ulsan. The site utilizes 2.5 kilometers of tunnels originally carved for gemstone extraction, with a total operational area spanning 16,500 square meters. The cavern maintains a constant interior temperature of 12 to 14 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Visitors can observe raw amethyst veins embedded in the cavern walls. The facility features a subterranean water boat ride through the flooded portions of the mine. Additional attractions include a fossil exhibition hall, an ice sculpture display, and various light installations within the rock passages. The exterior park area provides outdoor recreational spaces and garden displays near the cave entrance.

Insider tips

Bring a light jacket or windbreaker even in summer due to the constant low temperature inside the mine.

Wear comfortable, non-slip walking shoes to navigate the slightly damp and uneven cavern floors.

Visit on a weekday to avoid significant crowds that gather at the boat ride boarding area.

What to avoid

Don't assume the cave is warm; visitors often underestimate the chill inside and arrive in inadequate summer clothing.

Good to know

Open year-round, but boat operations may be suspended briefly during heavy rainfall if water levels rise.

Etiquette

Do not touch or attempt to chip away the amethyst crystals embedded in the cave walls.
