Overview

The Piotrków Trybunalski Royal Castle, known as the 'Small Royal Castle,' is a Renaissance-style defensive residence commissioned by King Sigismund I the Old. Completed in 1519, the building served as a royal residence and a venue for the Crown Tribunal, the highest judicial court in the Kingdom of Poland. The structure features a distinctive four-story tower with a tall attic, reflecting the architectural transition from Gothic to Renaissance styles. Currently, it houses the Museum in Piotrków Trybunalski, which preserves the city's historical records and local artifacts. The building survived several fires and invasions throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, undergoing significant structural restorations in the 20th century. It remains one of the few surviving royal residences from the Jagiellonian dynasty in central Poland.
