Overview

Le Pas dans le Vide is a glass-walled viewing box suspended over a 1,000-meter drop at the summit of the Aiguille du Midi in the French Alps. The installation consists of five panels of 12mm-thick tempered glass held together by steel fittings. It offers an unobstructed vertical perspective down toward the Chamonix Valley. The structure is situated at an altitude of 3,842 meters, requiring access via a two-stage cable car system. The glass enclosure is designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 220 km/h and temperatures as low as -40°C. Visitors step onto the glass platform to stand above the glacier landscape. It is the highest altitude tourist attraction in Europe.
