Overview

Malenovice Castle is a late-medieval fortress located on a rocky promontory overlooking the Dřevnice River valley in the Zlín region. Originally constructed in the second half of the 14th century, the castle underwent significant Renaissance and Baroque modifications under the ownership of the Lords of Šternberk. The interior features a rare example of preserved 16th-century wall paintings in the chapel. The site is currently managed by the Museum of Southeast Moravia in Zlín, which maintains permanent ethnographic and natural history exhibits within the castle walls. Visitors can access the tower for elevated views of the surrounding Zlín Highlands. The castle grounds include a courtyard and portions of the original fortification walls that survived various historical sieges. It remains one of the few castle sites in the Zlín district that retains its primary defensive layout.
