The surviving walls enclose a vast public garden that serves as the primary recreational space within the town center. The fortification was built on the site of ancient Atestine settlements, integrating historical layers from the Iron Age to the Middle Ages. Its layout follows the natural topography of the southern slopes of the Euganean Hills. While much of the interior structure has been lost to time, the external curtain wall remains largely intact. The site is currently maintained by the municipality of Este as a public park and historical monument.
