Overview

The Castle of Montsoriu is a 10th-century fortification located in the Montseny Natural Park in Girona. It is considered one of the best-preserved examples of Gothic military architecture in Catalonia. Originally a strategic point for the Viscounts of Cabrera, the structure evolved from an early medieval tower into a complex residential and defensive stronghold. Significant restoration projects carried out in the 21st century have stabilized the walls and interior spaces for public access. The site features an inner bailey, defensive towers, and a large courtyard built during the 14th century. Visitors can observe the transition between Romanesque origins and later Gothic architectural modifications. Its location atop a hill at 650 meters elevation provides views of the Tordera valley and the surrounding Montseny range.

The upper ramparts facing the Tordera valley provide the widest panoramic view of the fortress layout and surrounding mountains.
