It is built on a site that has seen human habitation since the Bronze Age, as evidenced by local archaeological findings.

Overview

Padenghe Castle is a 12th-century hilltop fortification located in the province of Brescia overlooking Lake Garda. It features a rectangular enclosure wall fortified by three corner towers and a high keep on the southern side. The structure served as a refuge for the local population during medieval conflicts rather than a residence for nobility. The interior courtyard currently contains private dwellings built within the original perimeter. Visitors can access the walkway atop the curtain walls to observe the surrounding landscape. The site is characterized by its stone construction and integration into the village layout. It remains one of the most intact examples of a ricetto-style defensive complex in the Valtenesi region.
