Overview

The Big 3 Panorama Felssteg is a steel-and-glass pedestrian bridge suspended over the Rettenbach Glacier in the Ötztal Alps. It forms part of the 'BIG 3' initiative in Sölden, connecting three 3,000-meter peaks accessible by lift. The structure extends from the Tiefenbachkogl peak, providing a direct vertical view down to the glacier surface. Visitors access the platform via the Tiefenbachbahn cable car. It provides 360-degree views of the surrounding Oetztal mountain range, including the Wildspitze. The bridge is engineered to withstand extreme alpine weather conditions at high altitude.

Insider tips

Check the live Sölden webcams before ascending to ensure visibility is not obscured by low clouds.

Bring polarized sunglasses to manage high-altitude glare reflected off the snow and glacier ice.

Acclimatize to the altitude at the restaurant before walking the full length of the bridge.

What to avoid

Attempting to visit during high-wind events or sudden storms when cable car operations are suspended.

Good to know

Operations are highly dependent on seasonal lift schedules; the site typically closes during the transition periods between the winter and summer seasons.

Etiquette

Wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear with grip as surfaces can be slippery; remain behind safety railings at all times.
