Overview

Faisal Masjid is an iconic mosque in Islamabad, designed by Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay to resemble a traditional Bedouin desert tent. It features a unique geometric design with four 90-meter-tall minarets, omitting the traditional central dome. The structure covers 5,000 square meters and can accommodate up to 74,000 worshippers within its prayer hall and courtyard. Constructed between 1976 and 1986, it was largely financed by a $28 million grant from Saudi King Faisal bin Abdul-Aziz. The interior walls are decorated with white marble, mosaic tile work, and calligraphy by Pakistani artist Sadequain. It is situated at the foot of the Margalla Hills, serving as a national landmark of Pakistan. The mosque also houses the International Islamic University's former campus.
