The park's breeding and research center was responsible for the first successful captive breeding of the Twelve-wired Bird of Paradise.

Jurong Hill, the park's location, was originally developed as an industrial lookout point before the bird park was established.
Jurong Bird Park permanently closed its doors on January 3, 2023, after operating for 52 years at its Jurong Hill site. The facility served as a major wildlife preserve for avian diversity, housing thousands of birds from hundreds of species. Its closure marks the relocation of its animal collection to Bird Paradise at Mandai Wildlife Reserve. The original site at Jurong Hill is no longer open to the public for bird-related tourism. The site was known for its large-scale walk-in aviaries, including the Lory Loft and the Waterfall Aviary. It was established in 1971 as Singapore's first wildlife park.
Do not travel to the Jurong Hill address, as the site is decommissioned.
