Castillo de Bellver is a rare example of a circular Gothic castle, constructed in the 14th century by King James II of Mallorca. Perched 112 meters above sea level in the Bellver forest, the design was intended for both royal residence and defensive fortification. During the 18th to 20th centuries, the castle functioned as a military prison for political figures. Today, it houses the City History Museum, displaying archaeological artifacts and sculptures from the classical period. The name 'Bellver' originates from Catalan, translating to 'beautiful view', referencing the panoramic visibility over the Bay of Palma. It remains a site of significant architectural interest due to its departure from traditional square or rectangular castle configurations.
