The arch is the symbol of Bohemian Switzerland National Park.
The Falcon's Nest lodge was built in 1881 by the Clary-Aldringen family for elite guests.
The sandstone formation was used as a filming location for the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
The top of the arch is strictly off-limits to tourists to prevent further erosion and structural collapse.
Pravčická brána is part of the Elbe Sandstone Range, which spans the border between Czechia and Germany.
Pravčická brána is the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe, measuring 26.5 meters in span and 16 meters in height. It serves as the primary landmark of Bohemian Switzerland National Park. The arch is situated atop a sandstone massif in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. A historic 19th-century lodge called Sokolí hnízdo (Falcon's Nest) is built directly into the rock formation beneath the arch. The formation was created over millions of years through the erosion of Cretaceous sandstone. Access to the arch itself is restricted to preserve the structural integrity of the stone. Visitors observe the formation from a series of marked viewing platforms. The site is a protected monument within the Czech Republic.
The designated viewing platform directly across from the arch provides the classic perspective of the opening and the Falcon's Nest lodge.
Bring high-traction hiking boots as the trails involve steep inclines and uneven sandstone terrain.
Start your hike early to secure parking in the village of Hřensko before the lot reaches capacity.
Carry sufficient water, as there are limited refilling stations along the ascent trails.
Attempting the hike in inadequate footwear like flip-flops or open sandals, which is dangerous on the steep, loose-surface paths.
Open daily during the main tourist season; occasionally closed or restricted during periods of extreme wind or fire risk due to national park safety regulations.
Stick strictly to marked trails and viewing platforms; climbing on the rock formation is prohibited.
