During the 1990s and early 2000s, the park was famously known for hosting a mini-train service that circled the perimeter of the lake.
The park underwent a major multi-year restoration project starting around 2017 to rehabilitate its water features and landscaping after years of decline.
The location is situated on land that was part of the original urban planning vision for Heliopolis by Baron Empain.
The park area spans approximately 50 acres, making it one of the largest green lungs in the East Cairo area.
Merryland Park, historically known as the New Roxy Park, serves as a significant green space within the Heliopolis district of Cairo.
