Overview

The Idukki Dam Boating Starting Point provides access to the reservoir created by the Idukki Arch Dam, one of the highest arch dams in Asia. Located between the Kuravan and Kurathi hills, the reservoir spans a vast area within the Periyar River basin. Boating operations are conducted by the District Tourism Promotion Council of Idukki. The dam itself is a double curvature parabolic thin arch dam constructed across the Periyar River. Visitors take motorized boats from this point to view the engineering scale of the dam and the surrounding forest cover. Access to the dam site is restricted and regulated by the Kerala State Electricity Board.
