Plavecký Castle is a 13th-century Gothic fortress built on a limestone hill in the Little Carpathians mountain range. The structure was originally constructed as a border guard castle to protect the Hungarian border. It underwent Renaissance fortification upgrades in the 16th century to defend against Ottoman incursions. The site was abandoned in the early 18th century after being damaged during the Rákóczi War of Independence. Today, the ruins feature visible wall remnants, preserved window arches, and stone corridors. Visitors can walk through the former castle gates and climb to the higher sections of the outer walls. The location offers elevated views of the Záhorie lowlands and the surrounding forest canopy. Preservation efforts led by local civic associations have stabilized sections of the masonry in recent years. Access is exclusively via a steep, unpaved hiking trail leading from the village of Plavecké Podhradie.
