Overview

The Jesuit Mission of the Holy Trinity (Trinidad del Paraná) is the largest and most well-preserved of the Jesuit reductions in Paraguay. Established in 1706, this UNESCO World Heritage site showcases the unique architectural fusion between Baroque style and Guaraní craftsmanship. The main temple features elaborate stone carvings, including remnants of a grand pulpit and decorated friezes. The site includes a large central plaza, a primary church, a secondary church, cloisters, and the cemetery. It served as a self-sufficient community for indigenous Guaraní people under Jesuit guidance until the order's expulsion in 1767. Its layout reflects the standardized urban planning enforced across Jesuit missions in South America. The site remains a primary example of the integration of indigenous labor into European ecclesiastical design.
