Overview

The Cristo del Pacífico is a 37-meter-tall statue of Jesus Christ situated on the Morro Solar headland in the Chorrillos district of Lima. Inspired by Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer, the structure consists of a 22-meter statue atop a 15-meter concrete pedestal. It was inaugurated in 2011 as a gift from the Brazilian construction firm Odebrecht to the city of Lima. The statue features an internal lighting system capable of projecting 26 different colors, which illuminates it at night. It is positioned at an altitude of approximately 260 meters above sea level, providing an expansive vantage point overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Lima coastline. The site serves as a prominent landmark on the skyline of the city's southern coastal cliffs.

Insider tips

Wear wind-resistant clothing, as the hilltop location is consistently exposed to strong coastal breezes.

Bring binoculars if you intend to appreciate the distant city views, as the statue itself is the primary focus of the site.

Use personal transport or a radio-taxi service to reach the site, as the road up the Morro Solar lacks pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.

What to avoid

Do not visit the area around the Morro Solar after dark on foot or by public transport due to security concerns in the surrounding secluded sectors.
