Overview

The Øresund Bridge is a combined railway and motorway bridge across the Øresund strait, connecting Malmö, Sweden, and Copenhagen, Denmark. The structure consists of an 8-kilometer cable-stayed bridge and a 4-kilometer tunnel known as the Drogden Tunnel. The tunnel section was necessary to avoid obstructing flight paths to Copenhagen Airport, located directly adjacent to the western landing. The bridge deck carries a four-lane motorway on the upper level and a double-track railway on the lower level. It serves as the primary land link between Scandinavia and mainland Europe. The design features two pylons reaching 204 meters above sea level, supporting the high-bridge span for ship navigation. The crossing is part of the E20 European route. It remains a critical piece of international infrastructure for both commercial logistics and daily commuter traffic.
