Overview

Ohiopyle State Park is a 20,500-acre protected area in Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands, centered around a 14-mile stretch of the Youghiogheny River. The Youghiogheny River Gorge is a premier destination for Class III to V whitewater rafting and kayaking. The park contains Ohiopyle Falls, a 20-foot waterfall located directly in the center of the town borough. Beyond water sports, the park features over 79 miles of hiking trails and 27 miles of mountain biking trails. The Great Allegheny Passage, a 150-mile rail-trail connecting Pittsburgh to Cumberland, runs directly through the park. Ferncliff Peninsula, a 100-acre tract of land protected as a National Natural Landmark, occupies a bend in the river featuring unique geological formations and rare plant species. Camping facilities include both tent sites and full-service cottages located at the Kentuck Campground. The park maintains a visitor center with interpretive exhibits on the region’s natural history and ecology.
