Saint Nicholas' Cathedral is the primary seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ljubljana and a central example of Baroque architecture in Slovenia. Constructed on the site of an earlier Romanesque church, the current structure dates back to the early 18th century, designed by architect Andrea Pozzo. Its floor plan is uniquely shaped like a Latin cross. The interior features significant frescoes by Giulio Quaglio, painted between 1703 and 1706 and later restored. The bronze side doors were added in 1996 to commemorate the 1250th anniversary of Christianity in Slovenia. The main entrance features a bronze door depicting the history of Slovenia, created by sculptor Mirsad Begić. The cathedral's two towers and a green dome dominate the skyline of the Old Town district.
