Overview

Souš Reservoir is an embankment dam located in the Jizera Mountains that serves primarily as a drinking water source for the Liberec region. Constructed between 1911 and 1915, it replaced a structure that collapsed during the catastrophic flood of 1916. The reservoir reaches a maximum depth of 19 meters and has a total surface area of 85 hectares. It is situated at an elevation of 772 meters above sea level. Public access to the water's edge is strictly prohibited to protect the high-quality water supply. The surrounding landscape consists of protected peat bogs and dense spruce forests characteristic of the Jizera Mountains. A paved road runs along the northern bank, providing a popular route for cyclists and pedestrians connecting Desná to the Souš settlement.
