Overview

Anfabrikas cliff is a prominent sandstone formation located along the Līgatne River in the Gauja National Park region. The cliff stands approximately 16 meters high and spans a length of 170 meters. It takes its name from the historic Līgatne paper mill, known as the 'Anfabrika', which was founded nearby in 1815. The rock wall features visible layers of Gauja suite sandstone, characterized by a reddish-brown hue. Several caves and niches are embedded within the rock face, formed by both natural erosion and human excavation. The site sits directly adjacent to the Līgatne River, which provides a reflective view of the geological layers. It is a protected geological monument of national significance.
