Overview

Hinze Dam is the primary water supply reservoir for the Gold Coast, located in the Gold Coast hinterland. The structure features a rock-fill dam wall that rises 108 meters above the valley floor. Visitors can access the Western Foreshore area, which provides views over Advancetown Lake and the surrounding mountain ranges. The facility includes an interpretive centre explaining the dam’s engineering and the history of the Nerang River catchment. The site features multiple walking and cycling tracks, including segments of the Nerang State Forest trail network. Watersports such as canoeing and kayaking are permitted on designated sections of the lake. No motorized vessels are allowed on the water to protect the quality of the drinking water supply. The dam has undergone two major wall heightening projects, with the most recent expansion completed in 2011.
