Overview

Yamataka Jindai Zakura is a 2,000-year-old Edo-higan cherry tree located on the grounds of Jissoji Temple in Hokuto, Yamanashi. It is recognized as one of the oldest and largest cherry trees in Japan, standing approximately 10.3 meters tall with a trunk circumference of 11.8 meters. The tree has been designated as a Natural Monument by the Japanese government. Its branches are supported by a complex network of wooden props to prevent structural collapse due to age. The site features panoramic views of the Southern Alps and Mount Kaikoma. The surrounding temple grounds include approximately 80,000 daffodils that bloom in sync with the cherry blossoms.
