Overview

Udai Sagar Lake is a 4-square-mile artificial reservoir created in 1565 by Maharana Udai Singh II to provide a reliable water supply to Udaipur. It is formed by damming the Berach River, a tributary of the Banas River. The lake holds significant historical importance as the site where Maharana Pratap met Kunwar Man Singh of Amber in 1573. It serves as one of the primary water sources for the city of Udaipur today. The landscape is characterized by its expansive catchment area rather than developed tourist infrastructure. It is situated approximately 13 kilometers east of Udaipur's city center. The lake remains a working body of water central to the local irrigation and municipal infrastructure. It is not a manicured tourist park, but rather an expansive wetland area with natural shoreline vegetation.
