Overview

Virginia Water Lake is a 1-mile-long artificial lake situated on the southern edge of Windsor Great Park. It was created in the mid-18th century by damming a stream and was originally much smaller before being expanded to its current size. The site features an ornamental man-made waterfall, the Cascade, constructed using stones salvaged from the ruins of Leptis Magna. The lake is surrounded by a 4.5-mile perimeter path that traverses various landscape features, including a decorative Roman ruin and a totem pole. The area serves as a significant habitat for waterfowl and migratory birds. Managed by the Crown Estate, the grounds include wide meadows, forested areas, and formal gardens like the Valley Gardens.

What to avoid
