Overview

Punta Sur Eco Beach Park is a 2,500-acre protected ecological reserve located at the southernmost tip of Cozumel island. The park encompasses the Colombia Lagoon, which serves as a critical habitat for American crocodiles and numerous migratory bird species. Visitors can explore the historic Celarain Lighthouse, which houses a small maritime museum documenting the island's navigational history. The park features a Maya ruin known as El Caracol, believed to have functioned as an ancient weather alarm system for seafarers. The coastline consists of diverse ecosystems, including sand dunes, mangrove forests, and extensive coral reefs accessible from the beach. The park is part of the Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park system, facilitating regulated snorkeling and diving activities in clear, shallow waters. Vehicular access is permitted throughout the preserve, allowing travel between the lagoon, the lighthouse, and the southern beaches.
