Overview

Rema ton Mylon (Stream of the Mills) is a lush, natural gorge located in the village of Zacholi in Evrostina. The area features a series of interconnected ponds, small waterfalls, and dense vegetation, once powering the traditional watermills of the region. A well-marked hiking trail follows the stream, passing by restored and ruined stone mill structures. The path incorporates wooden bridges and natural limestone formations that create a temperate microclimate. It serves as a preserved ecosystem known locally for its high humidity and diverse flora, including plane trees and ivy. Visitors can observe the remains of stone-built channels used for historical milling operations. The gorge remains one of the few shaded hiking corridors in the northern Peloponnese.

Insider tips

Wear footwear with high-traction soles, as the rocky paths and wooden bridges become slippery due to constant moisture.

Bring mosquito repellent, as the damp, shaded environment is a breeding ground for insects throughout the summer.

Stick to the marked trails, as the steep canyon walls and loose stone sections can be dangerous in off-trail areas.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to hike the gorge during or immediately after heavy rainfall, as the trails are prone to mudslides and rising water levels.
