Overview

Taliesin is Frank Lloyd Wright’s 800-acre estate in Spring Green, Wisconsin, which served as his primary residence and architectural laboratory for nearly five decades. The site includes multiple structures, such as his home, Hillside Studio, the Romeo and Juliet Windmill, and the Tan-y-Deri house. These buildings represent Wright's concept of Organic Architecture, integrating structural forms with the rolling topography of the Driftless Area. The estate is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a National Historic Landmark. Much of the site was destroyed by two separate fires in 1914 and 1925, leading to successive rebuilds that define the current architectural layout. The landscape features restored prairie, oak savannas, and gardens designed to harmonize with the limestone bluffs. It currently serves as the headquarters for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and the Taliesin Preservation organization. Visitors can access the grounds only through guided tours managed by the preservation group. The site functions as an active educational center for architecture and preservation students.
