Overview

Curug Cibeureum is a multi-tiered waterfall situated within the Mount Gede Pangrango National Park at an elevation of approximately 1,625 meters above sea level. The site consists of three main waterfalls: Cibeureum, Cidendeng, and Cikundul, with the primary Cibeureum drop reaching a height of about 40 meters. The surrounding rainforest ecosystem serves as a habitat for endemic species, including the Javan gibbon and the Javan hawk-eagle. Visitors access the falls via a maintained hiking trail that originates from the Cibodas Botanical Garden entrance. The terrain is characterized by humid, montane tropical forest vegetation with significant moss cover and high moisture levels. Water flow is perennial, supported by the catchment area of the volcanic slopes of Mount Gede.

Photo spot

The bridge crossing the stream directly in front of the main waterfall provides the most stable and clear view.

Insider tips

Wear high-traction hiking boots as the volcanic soil and stone paths become extremely slippery when wet.

Carry a waterproof bag or rain cover for all electronics and camera equipment due to high humidity and mist.

Start the trek early in the morning to avoid afternoon cloud cover and typical mountain rain showers.

What to avoid

Attempting the hike during heavy downpours, as the trail is prone to localized mudslides and flash flooding.

Good to know

Subject to temporary closure during extreme weather events or periods of high seismic activity on Mount Gede.

Etiquette

Carry out all trash, do not feed local wildlife, and stay strictly on marked paths to protect the sensitive mountain ecosystem.
