Overview

The Tobolsk Gate is a historic 18th-century stone fortification located on the banks of the Om River in Omsk, Russia. It is the only surviving gate of the Omsk Fortress, originally constructed as part of the second Omsk fortification system. Built in 1791–1794, the gate served as the primary entrance to the fortress from the direction of the river. The structure features a classical architectural design with a pedimented facade and arched passage. It functioned as an active defensive barrier and a checkpoint for travelers entering the city. During the 20th century, the gate underwent several phases of restoration to preserve its original masonry. It remains a key symbol of Omsk's military and colonial history in Siberia. The structure sits within the larger Omsk Fortress complex near the confluence of the Om and Irtysh rivers.
